Holidays tend to bring a sense of comfort with them; however, each year some of us tend to get a little too comfortable. For some of us, the end of the holiday season might mean an increase in waist size, an added sense of guilt, and anxiety about getting back in shape and back to your regular routine. You should absolutely treat yourself to occasional indulgences during the holiday season, but there are definitely ways to relax on your holiday without sacrificing your fitness and health progress that you’ve been working so hard on. 1) Keep your body in motion The simplest (yet sometimes most daunting) task to accomplish is keeping the body in motion. We get it. Sometimes you have family or friends visiting that you haven’t seen in years. There are still ways to keep your body active, but still make time for quality time with your loved ones. Do a quick 5 minute routine when you wake up consisting of jumping jacks, mountain climbers, and other cardio exercises. Or just take a few minutes throughout the day to stretch your muscles. Doing something is always better than doing nothing. 2) Carry the health with you Holiday season usually comes with seasonal snacks and treats, and it may be tempting to stray from your typical healthy habits. If you want to try to resist the temptation, try taking preventative measures while you are still at home. For instance, before you leave for the day, you can pack fruits, veggies, and other healthy snacks in your bag. Set yourself up for success rather than failure! Your body (and your wallet) will thank you later. 3) Make your physical exercise a group activity Physical wellness is not a solo journey! If you are surrounded by family and friends during the holiday period, why not turn fitness into a group activity! It can serve as a fun way to bond with your loved ones rather than sitting around the TV all day. You may find that staying active as a group may make the holidays even more enjoyable! 4) Plan out your vacations in the best possible way Many people choose to go on vacation during the holiday period as well. It is always useful to do some research and planning to incorporate activities in your vacation itself! For example, if you are going to a tropical area, why not plan for a sunrise run on the beach? Maybe try surfing! If you prefer going to colder areas, try planning a skiing trip! There are still numerous ways to incorporate physical activity into your vacations that will keep you active and entertained.
